AS A US CITIZEN, DO I NEED A PASSPORT TO VISIT VICTORIA?
ALL PERSONS traveling by AIR, LAND or SEA
Effective June 1, 2009: All U.S. citizens need to present a passport or Enhanced Driver’s Licence, showing citizenship and identity, for re-entry into the United States. WHTI-compliant document such as a NEXUS card will continue to be an acceptable alternative to a passport. It is strongly suggested that travellers also have government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or birth certificate with them. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry into the United States.
Enhanced Driver's Licenses (EDLs) If you are a US citizen and a Washington State resident you are eligible to purchase an Enhanced Driver License (EDL) which will meet the requirements for proof of citizenship to re-enter the U.S. from Canada by land or sea. Further information for Washington residents is available at the Department of Licensing website at www.dol.wa.gov/about/news/priorities/edl.html

Since June 2008, United Airlines has been flying daily from San Francisco to Victoria. This is a 2 hour non-stop flight that gets you into Victoria conveniently on time to take in Butchart Gardens or make a tee time at one of the regions many golf courses.
HOW CLOSE ARE BEACHES AND WALKING PATHWAYS?
We are directly across from Beacon Hill Park’s linear oceanside pathways. We have beach access right across the street. The walking pathways follow the ocean allowing many beach access points along the 5 kilometres of pathways. These beaches are terrific for beachcombing and for watching the many kite surfers and wind surfers who frequent the area - in their dry suits, even on warm summer days. This is not a swimming area as the water is too cold. We can show you the way to ocean beaches at Witty's Lagoon or Willows Beach or fresh water lakes like Elk, Thetis or Durrance lakes for swimming.
We are within three blocks of the public transit, a very fine system that will take you to Butchart Gardens, the British Columbia Ferries at Swartz Bay or off to places further afield.
CAN WE WALK TO DOWNTOWN?
Yes, it’s a lovely, relaxing and quiet walk through Beacon Hill Park, or through the Fairfield neighbourhood, or along the ocean and through the James Bay neighbourhood. The walk takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes, depending on how many gardens or character homes you stop to admire.
IS VICTORIA A BIKE FRIENDLY CITY?
Yes, we have great bike rental outlets nearby and wonderful access to safe bike lanes on city streets and to designated bike and walking trails leading north to the Saanich Peninsula and on to Sidney and west to Metchosin and Sooke. Dashwood Manor has a safe storage area for bikes.
DO YOU HAVE SELF-CATERING ROOMS FOR LONG TERM STAYS?
Our rooms do not have cooking facilities. Photos show stoves in two guest rooms that were in use during the house's previous incarnation as self-catered lodging, however, these will be removed in the next year as we renovate and upgrade. So far, 9 of these dated mini-kitchens have been removed as we rip up floors, contend with dismantled plumbing, electrical and wall repairs. We appreciate the patience guests show for this lengthy and costly process. Each guest room is spacious, and many have a small fridge for your convenience. Each room has an ocean view as well! This neighbourhood has a great variety of interesting and affordable restaurants and little eateries, so lunches and dinners are easily accommodated. Walk to the Cook Street Village in less than 10 minutes and sample the fare at the Beagle Pub, Rosie's Diner, Bubby Rose's Bakery, Mocha House, the McKenzie Market with its Japanese, Thai and Ethiopian foods, or hit the Starbucks for a light bite!

Head further into the downtown core and wander along the Inner Harbour, enjoying the buskers, artisans and all the activity on the water.
