This was Edith’s father, Mr. Madigan’s bedroom. He had achieved notoriety as the Chief Engineer on the SS Beaver, the ship that brought Sir James Douglas and his men to the beach below Dashwood Manor  as they struck out in 1843 to establish the settlement for Victoria.
